Traditional Tales - Jack and the Beanstalk
In Spring 2, we explore a range of traditional tales. One of our focus texts is Jack and the Beanstalk.
We share the story as a class. Then, the children have the opportunity to retell and to act out the story with masks, puppets in our puppet theatre and props in our themed small world tray.
The story is continued in our other provision areas too. Many children enjoyed building beanstalks with the cubes, seeing who could make the tallest one. In our writing area, children used their phonics to segment words from the story. The children could improve their fine motor skills through finger painting the magic beans.
As part of our Understanding the World, the children each planted a broad bean. This was their favourite part of the week. We first looked at the life cycle of a bean and what plants need. They designed a castle in the clouds just like in the story. We are patiently waiting to see if and when our beans will produce pods.
